Convert To Video

When users download the software, there are two setup files. One is a2swf_setup.zip and the other one is swf2video_setup.zip.

  • a2swf_setup.zip is for installing Article To SWF.
  • swf2video_setup is for installing SWF to Video converter.

SWF to Video converter is a software that can be used to convert the generated SWF file to video file (avi or mpg).

There is a seperated manual for SWF to Video converter which can be found on your computer at "Start"->"All Programs"->"SWF2Video Software". Please check its manual for details.

Several things we need pointed out:

1. Video Codec

SWF to video converter uses video codec to convert the swf file. However, it does not include any video codec with its installation. It will load the video codecs which are installed on users computer already, and users can select the codec that will be used.

By default, SWF to video uses "uncompressed full frame" codec, the size of the converted avi file will be huge.

We tested many codecs, and our recommendation is:

  • TechSmith Screen Capture codec. If you had Camtasia Studio installed already, then its codec is already installed on your computer. It is a lossless codec which means the quality of the video is lossless after conversion. However, Camtasia is not free.
  • CamStudio Lossless codec. Its performance is as good as TechSmith codec, and it is an open source. It is free. It can be download from Here. Scroll down to the center, there is a link to download the codec. At the moment of this writing, the version is V1.4.
  • XVid codec. It is an open source project, and can be freely downloaded from Here. It is not a lossless codec, the converted video quality is not as good as lossless codec, however, the size of the converted video is much smaller.

There are many other codes. However, we recommend these above ones.

2. Conversion Performance

The conversion results could depend on users computer's configuration. Usually, the better configuration the better performance it should be. In most cases, an average computer should be good enough for the conversion.

Shut down all other software when the computer is converting the video.

3. Sound Conversion

  • The sound conversion results depend on computer's sound card's performance. Usually, a new computer will have a better quality conversion result.

  • The conversion tool uses the output of the sound card to record the sound. The computer's volume decides the converted file's volume. Higher volume on the computer will generate higher volume in the converted avi file.

If the computer's sound volume is turned off, it will not have sound after the conversion.

  • In some cases, the output of the sound card could be disabled by the operating system, especially in Windows Vista system. To enable the output:

    1. Go to control panel and click sound icon.
    2. Click Recording tab, then Right click on the background of the tab, select "Show Disabled Devices".
    3. Then, you should see items such as "Wave Out Mix", "Stereo Mix", or something similar (depends on your PC's hardware).
    4. Right Click on it and enable it.
    5. Now, try the conversion again.

  • Sometimes, depends on computer's sound card, change the audio bit rate improves the sound quality. By default, the converter uses bitrate 112kb/s. Change it to 128kb/s may get better results.
